Woman forced to put up sign outside her home to explain why Golden Retriever sits on the roof
Huckleberry the Golden Retriever sits on the roof so often that his parents have had to put up a sign reassuring concerned passersby that all is well
A woman based in Austin, Texas has been forced to install a sign on her property explaining to concerned passersby why her Golden Retriever sits on the roof.
The delightful Huckleberry loves nothing more than nabbing the best seat in the house so that he can survey all the goings on in his neighborhood, but people were becoming so concerned about his precarious position that his owners were getting constant knocks on their door.
With around four to five people dropping by each week to point out the adorable doggy on the roof and with a young toddler in the house who does not like having their naps disturbed, Huckleberry’s owners decided something needed to be done and so they erected a sign.
Accompanying a gorgeous photo of a smiling Huckleberry are the words:
‘Huckleberry is living up to his name and learned how to jump onto our roof from the backyard. We never leave him in the backyard without someone being at home. He will not jump off unless you entice him with food or a ball!
‘We appreciate your concern but please do not knock on our door – we know he’s up there! But please feel free to take pictures of him and share with the world!’

Huckleberry’s human mom says she still gets around one or two knocks on her door a week from people who don’t notice the sign as they’re walking up the path to her home, she’s happy that the number of worried visitors has begun to decrease.

Sharing a photo of Huckleberry and the sign on Reddit, the post got plenty of attention from netizens eager to learn more about what having a roof dog is actually like.
When asked whether she can hear Huckleberry clambering about on her roof, the woman replied: "Yes, it's annoying, especially with an infant who's trying to nap.
"The worst is when someone starts waving at him and he bolts to the front of the house - I'm surprised all my shingles are still intact."
The family have recently adopted another Golden Retriever who they’ve named Bluebell and if Huckleberry’s Instagram account is anything to go by, it looks like we have another roof dog in the making.
