King Charles brings home his first puppy in over three decades – here’s what we know so far
The news of the new puppy comes shortly after the Queen adopted a rescue dog named Moley

King Charles has reportedly welcomed a new puppy to the palace – an Italian spaniel named Snuff, who he is “besotted with”, according to The Sun.
Snuff is a Lagotto Romagnolo – a rare dog breed with an exceptional nose that's often used for truffle hunting and is considered one of the best tracking dogs. The breed originates from Ravenna in northeast Italy, where the King and Queen are set to visit in early April.
Lagotto Romagnolos were on the verge of extinction in the 1970s but were eventually saved by a group of dog enthusiasts. The name translates to “Romagna water dog”, which is what they were originally bred for before transitioning to truffle hunting over time.
Since the announcement, the breed has seen a 53% increase in interest worldwide. In the UK, searches for 'Lagotto Romagnolo' have risen by 200%, and there has been a 124% surge in Brits looking to buy one as a puppy.
A spokesperson at Puppies.co.uk said: “It’s not surprising that interest in the breed has spiked following Snuff’s arrival in the royal household. However, while this breed may be the ideal fit for the King, we urge people not to make any impulsive decisions.
“This breed is active and requires lots of mental stimulation, making them less suitable for those with busy schedules or less active lifestyles. It’s important to do your research to ensure this breed is a good fit for you and your family.
“Equally, breeders following responsible practices and not breeding purely for popularity is paramount. Buyers must prioritize breeders who carefully and responsibly breed for health, temperament, and suitability.”

Snuff won’t be the only new pooch at the palace. Last month, Queen Camilla announced that she had adopted a rescue puppy Moley, who was named due to his resemblance to a mole.
She also has a Jack Russell, Bluebell, who she adopted from Battersea after the dog was found with a painful skin condition in a London park.
In November last year, the Royal Family announced that her other rescue dog, Beth, had sadly passed away. It is believed she had been diagnosed with an untreatable tumor.
