I have a confession to make — if you were to turn up at my house right now, I'd be more than a little embarrassed to have you sit down on my couch! I can promise you the coffee would be excellent, the slice of pie delicious and you'd have two adorable cats to cuddle. But my word have their claws destroyed my furniture.

That is until this little beauty of a cat scratching post came along. Granted, there's nothing I can do about the current couch (except replace it) but what this strategically placed scratching post has done is to put a stop to Roxy and Teddy destroying it any further.

You're probably wondering what's so special about this particular product and why I'm waxing lyrical about it to anyone who'll listen. Well, read on to find out why this is the one scratching post I recommend above all others...

At 31.5 inches tall, this scratching post will give your kitty a wonderful stretch while the jute fiber is guaranteed to keep their claws in tip-top condition. Teddy adores the ball toy that's attached to this post and having it placed by the couch has put a stop to Roxy's persistent scratching of the sides. She now scratches where she's meant to, which is a huge win!

One of the things I've become aware of as a cat owner is that the right scratching post isn't just important for claw health, it's also vital for allowing our feline friends to get a good stretch in several times a day.

Many scratching posts fall short of the height required to provide this, but not this one. At 31.5 inches this vertical model lets both our cats fully stretch out while they sharpen their claws — and our seven-month-old British Shorthair, Teddy, can't get enough of the ball toy.

Teddy was trained to use a scratching post from the minute she was able to use one, so furniture doesn't hold a lot of interest for her (she's more of a chew your shoelaces kinda gal) but unfortunately we weren't so lucky with Roxy.

A Burmese/British Shorthair cross with bucket loads of curiosity and a rather mischievous streak, her favorite item to scratch up until recently was the couch. I'm thrilled that by placing this post next to her preferred scratching place we've now got her using this instead.

When it comes to the best cat scratching posts (or any other product for that matter) I'm not one for recommending (or buying) expensive items just for the sake of it. If an $18 scratching post works as well as a branded $40 or $50 one, I'm going to go for the cheaper option every time as long as I'm not compromising on quality.

Which I can guarantee you, you won't be doing if you opt for this little beauty. It's incredibly sturdy (trust me, Teddy launches herself at it multiple times a day!), easy to put together and very, very durable. We've had it for three months and it still looks fabulous.

This scratching post definitely comes with my golden seal of approval and four enthusiastic paws up from the cats. But if you're still not sure, check out our guides to the Black Friday cat deals and Black Friday pet deals for some other great options worth considering.
