I have a confession to make — I'm not easily tempted by big sales events. When it comes to Black Friday cat deals, I'm careful about only recommending products I'd buy myself and those that I think have outstanding price drops that aren't frequently repeated at other times of the year. Thankfully, this DNA testing kit ticks both those boxes!
Normally $159.00 on Basepaws website, this product is currently reduced to $85 over at Amazon, so if you're keen to find out more about this little beauty, you're in luck! I've teamed up with staff writer (and cat expert) Megan Milstead who's been testing out this product with her feline friends Chilli and Nala. Here's everything you need to know...
Basepaws Cat DNA Test Kit | 46% off at Amazon Was $159.00 Now $85.00
An easy to use, comprehensive DNA test kit that can detect more than 20 different breeds and screen for more than 40 genetic diseases. Ready to test? Simply take a swab from your cat's mouth, package it up and send it off — you'll have the results back in 4-6 weeks.
Founded in 2017, Basepaws is a petcare genetics company that offers affordable and effective screening tools that can help with the early identification of potential health issues. Their cat DNA test kit is one of the most comprehensive of its kind on the market and as Megan found out, it's incredibly easy to use.
"To my surprise, this DNA kit was quick and simple to use—I had packaged up my sample in under five minutes! Understandably, my cats weren’t thrilled about having a swab in their mouths, but the process was over in about 10 seconds and easier than I had expected.
All I had to do was run the swab along their gum line and cheek pocket. The instructions were printed on the box and were super simple to follow."

Once the lab has received your cat's sample, they'll screen it and send a detailed report back containing information about your feline friend's breed composition and traits. Your cat's sample will also be screened for 64 health markers associated with 43 disease that your kitty may be genetically predisposed to.
Why is this important? Well, early detection is vital when it comes to helping your vet get ahead of diseases before they become life-threatening. We also love that this test provides an oral health report. Poor dental hygiene can lead to a range of diseases, including diabetes and heart disease, so you can be proactive in caring for your cat's teeth.
After researching Basepaws and testing it out for ourselves, we feel this is one deal that's well worth snapping up. "Overall, I’ve had a great experience using this kit," says Megan, adding "I'm so excited to receive my results in a few weeks!"
