Chewy Claus is back for this year’s holiday season and providing free pet adoptions during Thanksgiving weekend
Don’t forget to submit your pet’s Christmas list to Chewy Claus!
The holiday season is an exciting time for many, including some of our beloved pets.
Perhaps you’re planning on treating your furry friends to some of the best Black Friday cat deals or the best Black Friday dog deals this year, or they always look forward to the extra visitors and attention!
However, some animals will be spending the holidays in shelters and rescues, rather than enjoying all the comfort and love of a forever home. And that’s where Chewy Claus comes in.
During Thanksgiving weekend, the Chewy Claus initiative, operated by the pet retailer, will be providing free pet adoptions at participating shelters and rescues across the US, in partnership with Best Friends Animal Society. Pets are entering shelters at a faster rate than they’re getting adopted, leading to a lot of overcrowding, so it’s a way to help address the problem.
Meanwhile, Chewy Claus is back as normal and ready to receive letters, so you can send your pets’ holiday lists featuring everything they’re hoping to receive this year!
For every letter submitted to Chewy Claus, Chewy will donate one pound of food to a non-profit partner, up to 600,000 pounds. Meanwhile, pets can defer their gift and ask Chewy Claus to send an extra pound of food instead. And if you’d like to help out in some way yourself, too, these reasons to volunteer with an animal rescue might tempt you!
Since Chewy Claus began in 2022, over half a million pets have sent in their lists, but one item – homes for all the pets in shelters and rescues – is at the top of many.

Orlena Yeung, Chief Brand Officer at Chewy, said: “Chewy Claus is dedicated to spreading joy during the happiest time of the year. When we received thousands of letters from pets asking for homes, we knew we had to help. There’s no better way to celebrate the season than by uniting pets with loving families – whether they’re first-time pet parents or welcoming a furry friend back home.”
Best Friends Animal Society CEO Julie Castle added: “As we head into the winter holidays, shelters and rescue organizations across the country are filled with adoptable dogs and cats that deserve loving homes.”
“Adoption is the most important step everyone can take to save the lives of shelter pets, and free adoption initiatives like this from Chewy Claus make it that much easier for people to consider bringing home a new best friend. We can’t think of a better time of year than the holiday season to make a pet’s wish for a loving home come true.”
