Cat jumps from burning building completely unharmed and lives to tell the tale
A viral video showing a cat jumping from a burning building is proving felines really do land on their feet
Ever wondered if our feline friends really have nine lives? Prepare to be amazed as one very fortunate cat jumps from a burning building and survives completely unharmed.
In a video taken by the Chicago fire police department and posted by Guardian News, a black cat can be seen hurtling towards the ground to escape an apartment fire.
Department staff were taking a video of the exterior of the building as firefighters were extinguishing the blaze when a black cat appeared through billowing smoke at a broken window.
The feline briefly tested the side of the building with its front paws, then jumped from the fifth-floor. A brief noise can be heard that sounds almost like a cat's meow, followed by the crowd's shocked gasps.
Miraculously, the cat missed a wall and instead landed on all four paws on a patch of grass, bounced once then ran away.
The cat survived the leap completely uninjured and the fire department are currently trying to track down its owner.
“It went under my car and hid until she felt better after a couple of minutes and came out and tried to scale the wall to get back in,” fire department spokesman Larry Langford told The Guardian.
