10 DIY dog birthday cakes and treats to spoil your pup
Create DIY dog cakes from your kitchen with these dog birthday cakes and treat recipes
Whether it's a special treat or a special occasion, DIY dog cakes are the most inventive way to make your canine feel like a truly pampered pup.
From dog birthday cakes to making your own perfect pupcakes, homemade dog treats continue to rise in popularity as pet owners look to create the best dog treats for their pooch, often turning to everyday kitchen ingredients.
The recipes below are compiled from real pet parents and feature dog-friendly delights, but you should also consider your dog's individual dietary requirements before deciding which dog cake recipe is perfect for your pooch.
What kind of cake can a dog eat?
If you're a dog owner already, then it's likely you already know that chocolate is toxic for your canine chum. However, you may be wondering about other ingredients in a typical birthday cake recipe, such as vanilla, icing or even the flour.
Dogs can eat these ingredients, but, as they're typically loaded in fat, sugar and wheat, it's best to create them their very own dog cake and ensure they only receive a small piece.
Ideal ingredients for making your own dog cake include some of your pup's favorite gooey treats such as peanut butter, apple sauce and pumpkin; just make sure you always choose xylitol-free as the standard peanut butter found in your kitchen can be highly toxic to dogs.
Savvy pet owners have even developed dog birthday cakes that are perfect for pups on a raw dog food diet.
