Choosing a name for your male cat can be difficult, particularly if you've got a tiny kitten on your hands and have yet to discover the quirks of their personality. For some cats it's easier than others – for example, a male cat with a splodge over one eye would make a perfect "Pirate".
If you need some inspiration because you’re bringing home a new kitten, look no further: we've collected our favorite male cat names below.
Tips for choosing male cat names
When choosing a name for your male cat you may find yourself inspired by their coat color, personality, history, or even a common habit. If you have a chatty cat, you might choose to name him "Gossip" or "Chatter". Alternatively, some cats have eyes that look like crystals or precious stones, so "Jasper" or "Jet" might be appropriate.
An article in Scientific American indicates that cats do learn their names, so once you choose one, stick to it. But as many cat owners know, trying to train your cat to respond to their name is quite difficult, so feel free to choose something bonkers if it amuses you, it probably won't make a difference to your kitty.

Lou is an experienced writer and keen dog lover who works at PetRadar's sister sites, LiveScience, Fit And Well and Coach. When Lou isn't covering health and fitness, she's busy spending time with her rescue lurcher, Dixie, horse riding or growing all kinds of veggies and flowers on her allotment.
Lou grew up with dogs and got her first dog in 2023 after many months of searching. Dixie is a six-year-old brindle greyhound lurcher (with lots of saluki mixed into her DNA too). Dixie was very uncertain and nervous when she first came home with Lou, who is her third owner, but after lots of time and care, she is now a happy, confident dog (with lots of canine and human friends!)
